T1
Transition 1: At the Entrance competitors must follow the direction arrows to their bike which has been earlier racked that morning by YOU the competitor. Proceed out of transition at bike exit on FOOT to mounting line outside transition; mounting your bike in transition will result in a heavy time penalty.

Cycle – 8 km
Leaving T1 take a sharp left turn on to the Rathbawn road, this is a busy junction so watch out for traffic.
The cycle is a tough 8k of rolling hills till you get to the right turn for the Booster, again be careful as you are crossing. The next 600m is on gravel type surface and they may be holes so be ultra careful if you don’t want to puncture.

The Booster run

•   Following the arrows staying on the LEFT ON THE WAY UP, the climb, Booster station is where the real Adventure race begins as its steep incline will hurt the legs.
•   It recommended that sturdy shoes be worn as underfoot terrain is gravely and uneven.
•   All competitors should Descend from the Booster station on the LEFT to avoid other competitors coming up.
•   Running down the descent can be very dangerous and could result in serious injury so proceed with CAUTION, only run at a speed you can control.
•   Competitors hiking up should give way to faster competitors descending down.

Re -Entering T 2

All competitors entering T2 should follow the direction arrows over the timing mats before getting to their bikes and exciting for cycle 2, Proceed out of transition at bike exit on FOOT to mounting line outside transition; mounting your bike in transition will result in a heavy time penalty.

The 2nd cycle
The first part (2k) of this cycle is on a gravely fire road, there is one VERY STEEP hill low gearing recommended.
Once out of the fire road its all down hill to Glenisland where competitors turn left for Castlebar and left again 8k later. The final 6k back to Castlebar is flat and on the Main Castlebar to Achill road so keep left at all times.
